Climbing sessions focused on kit familiarisation

Delivered by the Mountain School UK team, held at the Peak Centre.

Mountain School UK delivered a highly practical and safety-focused two-hour climbing session at The Peak Centre Designed specifically for beginners and intermediate climbers seeking greater confidence with technical equipment, the session prioritised hands-on kit familiarisation over physical endurance or route difficulty.

Led by qualified, Mountain Training-registered instructors, the session began with a thorough safety briefing covering venue protocols, fall dynamics, and the shared responsibility of partner checks. Participants were then introduced to core hardware including adjustable models, locking carabiners (with screw-gate and auto-locking variants)

With a focused on knot-tying: the figure-eight follow-through was taught and verified under supervision, alongside backup knots (stopper and double overhand) and their appropriate use. Instructors demonstrated proper rope management techniques — coiling, stacking, and tangle prevention.

That sounds really useful – I’ve found it’s so much easier to learn climbing when you’re comfortable with the gear.

Which is exactly what this training is all about training with the kit and then use it. Note it is kit familiarisation at a starter level.
