Outdoor and Social is valuable to Montane

Outdoor and Social is a three-day outdoor learning event, which started on March 11, 2025, at Newfold Farm, Edale, in the Peak District, following on from the inaugural event last year.

It is free of charge for retail staff and food and accommodation are provided.

Hannah said: “I love the event. We had a good time last year despite the rain. It’s good to be back again and nice to have some sunshine.

“It feels a bit bigger than last year. It’s nice to see more brands take it up. I’d love to just see more retail staff even though we’ve got more than last year. The event has got really good bones. So, I would love to see a few more retailers put some more trust behind it and just send loads of people.”

The purpose of Outdoor and Social is to teach retail staff how to use the equipment they are selling. In that way they have the technical knowledge to advise customers what best suits them and for what activity.

Hannah added: “It’s really valuable and a good thing for us. Where the event is based means people can get straight out on the hill. We bought hordes of demo kit and it means that rather than sessions inside a shop floor we can actually take people out in kit, which is really nice.

“Last night we had a big group going out trail running in our running packs.”

Hannah also loves the social aspect where everyone meets up in the evening in the main marquee for free food, drink and interesting speakers.

She added: “We love the social side of things. A lot of these industry events are scaling back now. So, to have something which is interacting with other brands again but also then seeing retail staff is just lovely. I’ll be back next year.”
